Overview

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA Early Learning Center Site Coordinator reports to the Site Director and provides leadership and supervision of the childcare program for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes full leadership of childcare program in Site Director’s absence.
  • Ensures implementation of a research based curriculum while providing care, guidance and developmental experiences in accordance with YMCA guidelines and state licensing requirements.
  • Supervises children, and may supervise staff, in a safe environment as required by the Site Director and center needs.
  • Assists the Site Director with the operation of the school, ensuring that the school is operating in accordance with YMCA and state licensing standards.
  • Ensures an educational, caring, and safe environment for the children, families, staff, and community.
  • Teaches, educates, and monitors children as needed.
  • Monitors ratios in an ongoing manner and makes staff adjustments to meet ratio needs.
  • Assist Site Director in staff development and training.
  • Inputs schedules and payments on an as needed basis.
  • Implements an assessment schedule and ensures ongoing assessment and progress monitoring of children.
  • Works in conjunction with the Site Director to Utilize and Analyze assessment and program data with all staff on a monthly basis.
  • Works in conjunction with the Site Director to use data to set goals for children and staff in an ongoing manner.
  • Assists the Site Director in compiling reports as needed for the program and grantees
  • Creates and implements processes and procedures for the safe and efficient running of all program needs and facility needs.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent. Must meet Director-level licensing requirements.
  2. One to two years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of child care programs.
  3. Must be at least 19 years (NE) or 21 (IA) years of age.
  4. Experience working with children 0-12 years in a group child care/school setting required.
  5. Ability to work independently with attention to detail required
  6. Complete within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention Training; BLS CPR; First Aid; Emergency Oxygen Administration
  7. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
  8. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of
    the community, including ADA compliance and successful clearance of background check.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Classroom/recreational environment. Intermittent sitting, standing, walking and playing with children at their level are required. 
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program.
  • Hours will include evening and weekend work.
  • Reliable transportation required and travel among local branches/off-site facilities may be required.
