Overview

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Y-STEM Facilitators expose children the world of STEM by provide a quality experience for children that focuses on building knowledge in the areas of Science – Technology - Engineering - Math. At least 2 weekday evenings (4-6pm) each week during the school year, plus paid planning time. 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  2. Nurtures participants through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in accordance with Positive Youth Development best practices.
  3. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards.
  4. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each participant.
  5. Cultivates positive relationships with participants and parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
  6. Supports program activities, actively engages with supervisor and partners during staff meetings and training.
  7. Maintains a clean and safe program site and equipment.
  8. Maintains required program records.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Education and/or experience in STEM related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Complete within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention Training; BLS CPR; First Aid; Emergency Oxygen Administration
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific training &/or certifications.
  • Ability to relate effectively to and develop meaningful relationships with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community, including ADA compliance. Successful clearance of background check.
  • Current Driver’s license, safe driving reocrd and reliable transportation.
