Overview

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  The Basketball Official impacts the lives of youth and families through implementing the rules, direct care, organization, supervision and well-being of participants in the sports activity.

Responsibilities

  1. Creates a positive environment for all participants, ensuring growth and development.
  2. Builds relationships among participants and spectators to pro-actively gain and retain members.
  3. Exemplifies appropriate behavior at all times. Acts as a role model for participants and spectators.
  4. Understands and implements rules of assigned sport, focusing on participant experience and safety at all times.
  5. Provides interpretation and demonstration to all children, including those with special needs.

Qualifications

  1. Must be at least 16 years of age.
  2. Knowledgeable of the game that they are officiating. Previous officiating and/or trainings are a plus.
  3. Individual must gain a thorough understanding of the basic philosophy, nature and goals of the YMCA and have developed solid human relation’s skills.
  4. Maturity, sound judgment, and possession of strong sense of responsibility.
  5. Sound organizational skills, as well as good oral and written communications skills and attention to detail are essential elements required to perform the duties of this position.
  6. Individual will be required to deal with the public on an on-going basis.
  7. Saturday availability will be required.
  8. On-site attendance is required of this position.
