Overview

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Group Exercise Coordinator is responsible for the development, organization and implementation of the Group Exercise Program. This includes, but is not limited to land and aquatic fitness classes as well as health/well-being engagement activities throughout the year.

Responsibilities

  1. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Works with supervisor to develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  2. Develops and implements department budget to meet fiscal goals.
  3. Develops, models and integrates systems and practices that encourage and sustain positive relationships and retention of members/participants.
  4. Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
  5. Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
  6. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to Group Exercise Instructors members.
  7. Manages payroll related transactions and monitor for accuracy and completeness.
  8. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Maintains/keeps current personal certification requirements.
  9. Communicates and updates program needs to supervisor and branch leadership.
  10. Keeps accurate program class attendance records and reports trends to supervisor.
  11. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
  12. Actively participates in department, branch and association meetings and trainings.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent preferred.
  2. At least 1 year previous supervisory experience in customer service and/or fitness instruction preferred.
  3. Complete within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention Training; BLS CPR; First Aid; Emergency Oxygen Administration (provided by YMCA)
  4. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
  5. Current ACE, ACSM, NASM Group Exercise Certification (required within 90 days of hire and maintained consistently).
  6. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of
    the community and successful clearance of background check.
